With the Giro nearly upon us, I'm going to post what I think the rules for the Grand Tour betting should be...

Requirements:

1. Pick your top five GC finishers (euro podium) in order - http://www.procyclingstats.com/race/Gir ... -startlist
2. Post picks on the forum to May 9

Rules:

1. No two players must have the same rider/order combination which means that if you pick early you pick without the constraint of having to pick differently than others, but also don't have the benefit of getting the latest info on rider injuries/form etc.

Scoring:

1. For each correctly predicted GC position 50 points. Picking the overall winner takes the same skill as picking third place overall, so points awarded will be the same.
2. For each successfully predicted top five finisher 25 points. For example, if I pick Fabio Aru to come second and he comes third I am still awarded 25 points.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the maximum score possible is 375...here are some examples of the scoring

Actual finish:
Porte/Contador/Kreuziger/Aru/Konig

Selection 1:
Porte/Contador/Acevedo/Konig/Aru

Points: 200

Selection 2:
Contador/Porte/Pozzovivo/Uran/Hesjedal

Points: 150

Maybe I don't understand your scoring, but...

Wouldn't max possible be 250 (5 x correct picks in correct positions @ 50 points each)?

And in your examples, wouldn't selection 1 be 150 points scored, and selection 2 be 50?

There is great potential for ties with this. What do you think we could use to break them?

Sorry, but second example should just be 50 points.

As for Marcel's question, you would get 250 points for the correct order 1 through 5, but an additional 125 points (25 per rider) because you correctly identified each of the riders in the top five (not necessarily in the right order).

The idea behind the additional 125 possible points is trying to reward folks for identifying the key contenders...I'm happy scrapping this bonus scheme...
