It was good. Results page
The course was very similar to the setup 2 years ago, but dry. The BMX and pump track as always were a lot of fun, but I was a tad conservative (got passed) in the BMX portion. It was entirely ride-able, but I had to hop off on the longest/steepest dirt hill because I always came up on the people who were running it. I found the choose-your-own-adventure path to the left to be faster - it might've been longer, but the path to the right required a hard break to stay on course. Only tumble I took was 2nd or 3rd lap - I didn't get my foot out of the SPD when dismounting. Luckily no one was behind me. I need to work on turning on loose rock/gravel at speed.
I swear yesterday I was listed as 11th, but today it's 10th. But the person behind me is listed as being 43, when it was the kid listed at 9th. Volunteers and all that, but I'd really like it if they'd use timing chips (thought they did that last year?). Yesterday the results had a per lap time for the beginners, but they've taken it down

Re: COTR Cumberland
One of the best battles I've ever had. Craig and I separated ourselves from any chasers on lap one and tested and attacked each other through 51 min of pain. I gapped him by taking the jump option line and by bunnyhopping the barriers, but Craig would gap me through the BMX section and on the open pedalling sections. With one lap to go I tried to get in front of Craig going over the jump but couldn't pass him. My plan was to attack him after the barriers but he kept the pressure on enough for the last kilometre that I couldn't get by him. Second place it was, but tons of fun...
Looking forward to more epic battles in the months to come!

Intermmediate men had about 45 on the line. From gun to tape it was a rocking time. First go at this and was not disappointed with the rush. The course was a good one to start out on once getting the feel for the pump track. After not a great start I steadily made my way up the field to finish tenth. I too need some work cornering in loose dirt/gravel. Getting the confidence to slide in a controlled manner i think Watching the experts go afterwards was a great way to see how it is done.
Any plans to organize a cross ride on Sundays when there is no racing? I'd be interested.

Re: COTR Cumberland
Great day.
I picked up my new bike, the Norco Threshold, on Wednesday. I rode it once (on the road) on Friday, before the race. I knew the fit was good but my CX skills would be rusty.
The course really didn't allow any opportunity to put down serious watts. The opening straight to the barriers was really it. There were some short sections where you could sprint up to speed but these were no longer than 200m. Any fitness I was banking on didn't really lend to a strong placing.
I worked the course well all race digging in to corners and trying to improve each lap, read the changes to the course, and stay focused. No mishaps.
The BMX track was my nemesis. Within 60 seconds of my finishing time there were 6 dudes. The 5 seconds I lost on each lap on the BMX section was a factor. Should have ridden my Haro more when I was 11.
All in all it was a wicked day. I'm looking forward to the Bear Mountain course. Hopefully some hills that will sting.
