April 12 VCL #2 - Caleb

Great race today for the Victoria Wheelers. With a small A group starting as a result of many riders heading to the mainland for Jeremy's Roubaix the pace in the first couple of laps was steady, but not crazy. Mick and Eugene from the Wheelers began animating things a bit and countered one another for a couple of laps. Mick rode off the front with about 16 laps to go and was quickly followed by Mike Dawson of PCR. After a lap or so they were joined by Joel Taylor and a really fast junior from Comox Valley. Mike was distanced after a couple of laps, with Joel pulling like a demon on the lower part of the course. Mick managed to hang on until 6 laps to go, and then was unable to hold Joel's wheel. He was able to hold off the chasing pack though and stayed away for 3rd place. Joel crossed the line first.
With Mick away in the break, his teammates back in the pack were able to relax and prepare for the sprint. They did a great job with it as well, with T Mac winning the field sprint for 4th, Eugene close behind for 5th and Stephane behind him for 6th.
Overall, some excellent results for the Wheelers.
Thanks to all who raced the A's and hopefully Andrew P can post a recap of the B race.

Cheers,
Mick

Good job by Mick to make it into the decisive move, and Eugene and Trevor looked comfortable the whole time and finished the best they could considering they were a little handcuffed with Mick in the break. Too bad the B finish was so confused, but the timekeepers were always going to have their hands full with the 3 groups all over the place. Can't wait 'til Wednesday! Hopefully Geoff and Andrew will be back to help us smash it at Latoria.
